Privacy Policy
Utter is built to keep dictation local to your Mac. This policy explains what data the app uses, what it does not collect, and how we would handle optional diagnostics if enabled in the future.
1. Core privacy principle
Utter is designed so your audio and transcript content stay on your device during normal app use. We do not operate a cloud transcription backend for Utter.
2. What Utter processes locally
- Microphone audio captured for dictation
- Temporary local audio files used during transcription
- Locally generated transcript text
- Local settings such as your hotkey and transcription mode
3. What we do not collect by default
- Your raw audio recordings
- Your transcript contents
- Your clipboard contents
- The text fields or apps you type into
4. Licensing and payments
Utter uses Lemon Squeezy for checkout, payment handling, and license activation. When you purchase or activate a license, certain transaction and licensing data is processed by Lemon Squeezy in accordance with their policies.
5. Optional diagnostics
If we introduce optional diagnostic sharing, it will be opt-in and described clearly in the app. Our intent would be to collect only technical debugging information such as app version, macOS version, setup failures, and runtime errors, and not audio or transcript content.
6. Data retention
Temporary audio files created during dictation are intended to be removed after transcription completes. Some temporary files may remain if the app or system crashes before cleanup runs.
7. Contact
